演講主題：The International Origins of China’s National Champions
內容簡介：
State capitalism, supported by state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in strategic sectors, is resurgent around the world. Nowhere is this more evident than in China, home to the largest state sector in both global and domestic terms. What explains the endurance and expansion of China’s SOE-backed state capitalism? Extending prior domestic-oriented scholarship, this study investigates the global context and content of China’s enterprise reform. Using primary and secondary sources, it investigates how Chinese policymakers’ continuous restructuring of SOEs since the late 1970s has evolved through engagement with Japan, the World Bank, the United States, and Singapore. This study highlights both the contribution and limits of international engagement to shaping China’s SOEs and state capitalist system.
